Monochrome Monday: Abandoned

abandoned

Abandoned walls in Lisbon (click for large image)

I’ve always been fascinated with photography of abandoned places. Abandoned places are everywhere in the world but unfortunately the places usually are not safe for touristic purposes and closed for public. I have doubt that we could enter these places without permits. When I traveled to Lisbon (Portugal), I saw few empty buildings with scattered walls. My mind ran wild, thinking these places were abandoned places with odd things inside 🙂

Have you seen unique abandoned places? Perhaps one of these places as listed in Bored Panda – 31 Haunting Images of Abandoned Places?

  1. Lovely B&W photos! You make those buildings look less scary. In Melbourne we have many abandoned warehouses around, the suburbs and inner subjects. Rumour has it they are usually places where people gather sometimes for parties…not good! Some houses might look abandoned here too, but usually they are brothels in disguise. You never really know if they are legal or not!

    • That’s scary, Mabel. I will be careful if someday in Melbourne for abandoned warehouse photo hunting! Thank you so much for your compliment 🙂 I hope you are having a great weekend 🙂

  2. Thank you for sharing this Indah! I love abandoned places, would love to enter but refrain from for fear of being charged with trespassing. In my home village, there are a few abandoned buildings. A couple of these buildings I have been in, when they were still open to the public, while others go back being abandoned before the 22 years I have lived here.
I enjoyed the link you also gave. Some absolutely amazing places listed here. 🙂

    • Thank you so much Carl! I shared similar feeling about the abandoned places, I don’t dare to enter them because of the trespassing and its legal consequences. I have heard there are groups of photographers who committed to this type of photography. In certain circumstances, they took the chance and in result, they could not disclose the locations of their images..

  3. Yes!! There are a lot of stories behind places like these you are showing here 🙂
Santiago de Chile has many of them. I never thought about it before but since I moved here, I see myself more interested of lively architecture! XX

    • Oh I wish to visit Santiago de Chile someday! I agree, I find lively architecture always wonderful to see and gives positive look while abandoned places are very often looked so eerie.. 🙂

  4. I totally get what you mean about abandoned places. I always wonder what the stories are behind them and why they have been left… black and white photography really depicts that

  5. I’ve seen abandoned houses and buildings in my area. I sometimes wonder what were they like when they were occupied. I feel sad seeing such places sometimes. Sign of the times perhaps.

    • I guess so, and indeed, it is sad to see the houses and buildings are being left behind..sometimes I think it is better to renovate them instead of building new ones, but very often this is not the case due to certain safety issue 😦
