Five Things I love about Minneapolis

What do I love about where I live, Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA)?

I have been living in Minneapolis for more than two years now and by far I enjoyed living in the city. Although I still don’t get why dim-sum in the Chinese restaurants here should only be available in the weekend; and I still can’t cope with its cold and long winter. Sometimes I also feel the season jumps immediately from the winter (a very long one) to the summer. Nevertheless, there are awesome things about Minneapolis that I adore and make the livings here are delightful.

First: the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. It’s just open last year and I love it. There are numerous sculptures around the garden plus a field for miniature golf. Dogs are allowed in the garden, thus, it becomes our regular dog walking visit.

Second, Pianos on Parade in the downtown Minneapolis every June. 25 pianos are placed around the downtown for everyone to play. It’s free and it’s fun to watch. Although I don’t play piano, I love listening to strangers playing piano in the public space, and most of the time, they are awesome players!

Third, the lakes in Minneapolis. Lake of the Isle is our favorite lake…hm, no, maybe Lake Harriet. Or Lake Bde Maka Ska (formerly known as Lake Calhoun)? Wait, I think Lake Nokomis is better..oh, well, the city has too many lakes to enjoy all season, but we’d prefer the summer. Of course 😀

Fourth, colorful street arts in the city. I will prepare a special blog post about this!

Fifth, frozen waterfall is just 20 minutes away. OK, I am not a fan to the winter season but to seeing a frozen waterfall is a memorable one.

    • It’s very cold during the winter… 😀 unless, if you like cold weather. But overall, it is a nice state to visit – so many lakes to enjoy and numerous waterfalls!

  1. LOL you had me chuckling.. dim sum only on week-ends.. used to be that way years ago, not anymore, every day of the week, usually till the dinner hour., We do have a Chinatown here, but the larger Chinese restaurants outside the city core still do dim sum if there is a demand for it, Sometimes some of the dumplings are available if you ask the waiter, some restaurants have a menu for Chinese patrons in Chinese. AND if there is a regular restaurant you go to for meals, ask them to recommend a place that might serve it during the week. Good Luck.

    • I love dim sum a lot, so this weekend deal is frustrating for me – not to mention the best dim sum restaurant is usually super crowded 😀 I will take a look at the Chinatown..maybe I have to go to St. Paul after all 😀 Thank you so much!!

  2. Frozen waterfalls are so cool, one of my favorite things. One day I want to explore my Midwestern roots. My Dad’s side is from Chicago and Milwaukee. When his Dad passed away they moved to NY around 1940. My grandma never wanted to talk about the past but we’ve managed to figure some things out due to ancestry.com. We’ve located my great great grandparents, and my grandpa but still need to locate my great grandparents graves. Once we do I’m headed to Chicago.

    • That’s awesome! I find the Midwesterners are friendly people – some of them area even very progressive (like the Minnesotans for instance 😀 ) Chicago is an awesome city, I have visited the it but only for a weekend, I always think to return and explore of the city 🙂
