Top Five Destinations I’d Love to Return

I was invited to a post challenge by Packing My Suitcase to write about the five places I loved and I would love to return. This challenge is originally from Booked.net – Top Destinations to Go There. Sincerely it took me a week to create the list as I have more than five places that I would love to return. Additionally there are some places I wish to return just for scuba-diving. The list I created now is top five destination as in general travel, however, I do have another top five scuba diving destination that I would like to share on future post. Someday 🙂

5. Scotland (United Kingdom)

Scotland is simply breathtaking. Scotland has so much to offer in tourism industry: it has amazing castles; remarkable lochs, wildlife and nature; golf course with splendid view; and of course: bagpipes, haggis and kilts! When in Scotland: just rent a car and drive! The scenery during our drive around Scotland was truly enjoyable. I heart Edinburgh for its beautiful hilly landscape and amazing buildings. I enjoyed Highland Dancing performance in Braemar. I treasured the stunning Urquhart Castle and its surrounding. I know why a monster would like to stay in Loch Ness – it is such a beautiful loch to stay and huge enough to start a family ;). And I had wonderful walks in Mallaig. I would love to return to Scotland and by far the only thing that hold me up is getting British visa to enter Scotland (it was not the easiest visa procedure I have ever had). I wonder if majority Scottish would choose Scotland to be an independent state in 2014 independence referendum and if it really separates from United Kingdom; would  Scotland be friendlier than United Kingdom for tourists from developing countries? I do hope so!

4. Barcelona (Spain)

Beach, delicious food, sun, awesome shops, football, modern buildings and Gaudi’s marvelous architectures. That’s Barcelona for you! Additionally, bullfighting is banned in Barcelona 🙂 But please don’t expect to practice Spanish in Barcelona as majority residents think they are Catalans instead of Spanish, thus some of them would prefer to speak Catalans or English. I had Gaudi’s tour during my visit to Barcelona. I admire his tremendous works in Barcelona. I would love to return to do the tour again.

3. Hong Kong (China)

I have been visiting Hong Kong multiple times and I always enjoy my visits. It has remarkable in-town airport check-in system, where you can check in your suitcases in the city center before your departure. I found Hong Kong has the best airport services – from its efficient immigration to the airport facilities. You might get the feeling the city as one huge jungle of skyscrapers and tall buildings with too much commercial adverts, but Hong Kong has some nature reserve areas like Mai Po, and large parks in the city. And two things that I love about Hong Kong are its night view and its milk tea 😉

2. Havana (Cuba)

Oh Havana..what can I say: its malecon, its old buildings, its plazas, its American antique cars, its Hemingway, its Che, its musics… How I love about Havana can be read on my previous posts – Mesmerizing Havana Vieja. I fall in love with Havana at my first visit, and I would love to visit it again and again.

1. Bali (Indonesia)

OK, I mentioned Bali as the number one here not because I am a crazy nationalistic person who wish to promote my country :). The truth is Bali has everything to love and to hate at the same time. For this reason I always feel home whenever visiting Bali despite the fact that Bali is not even my hometown. Bali is a destination for all type of travelers. I have been visiting Bali multiple times and the island has never bored me. Its people, its daily tradition, its beaches, its waves for surfers, its temples, and its underwater for scuba divers and snorkelers are unique and differ from the rest of the islands in Indonesia.

According to the challenge, I should nominate five travel bloggers to participate in this challenge. So my nominations would go to: BamaHis Travel and Work ReporterKrishna’s Pictures and Notes, Myenz, and Snippets of Suri

And, I invite all readers to participate in writing the challenge as well, what is your top five destinations that you wish to visit again? I am curious and would like to read your recommendation. Hope you will share your Top Five post with us!

  1. Upps I have seen it only today that you nominated me to participate to this challenge. Thank you so much for this Indah it’s a honour and of course I will think very hard and post something soon.

    • 😉 hope to see your post on the challenge Erwin – looking forward to read it (and I hope that will help to boost your web traffic). Cheers and have a great day!

      • Thank you so much Indah for nominating me. I’m sure it will bust it. You are helping me so much. It’s great having you as friend. It’s only so hard for me to write in English. But I’m working hard on it and have some nice stories thought. Then I have to scan old photos and Dias. Most of the destinations are before digital cameras. 🙂

        • awesome! Me too – it took me quite sometime to write in English, but your English is way better than mine! Oh, if you link the post to booked net as I did, they may link your post on the challenge at their website.. just take a look 🙂 Viel Glück!

          • Haha now I’m laughing loud. My English better than yours. Haha. By the way you speak German too? I have just got the email from Elena (Buiked.net) and I think I’m not on the right plot with my post. I thought I would write it more about the personal experience the journey of visiting this place then promoting and recommend a it. My chosen destinations are also long time back, Iran 1975, Alaska 1996, Kimberly 2002. Dubai 2008 If you like I will send you the text by email.

            • :)) seriously.. I live among non native English speakers here.. 😉 Ah, that’s too bad about the post on booked.net. Sure, if you would like to..or you can just post it on your blog without linking it to booked net so it will be shared with other readers too 😉

              • I have sent an email to Elana with the text I thought to post and she is very happy to take it with no problems at all. She finds the article great. I hope to post it soon. Thanks again Indah.

                  • ohh, the writing is ok, but now I have headache with the photos from US. Amazing in Iran I made slides 1976 and this are coming out great, but the photos are terrible.

                    • Now you made me really super curious to read your post :)) Oh – my German language is horrible, I took German language class during high school for two years but most of it has gone now..only “travel-surviving” words..

                    • Haha, If you would ask for VIP access to my private area of the blog you could login and read the first part from Iran and also see the old grumpy man celebrating my wife’s 60th . 😛

  2. Challenge? Indah I have to say your challenge is my dream. Two places you have here one your home Bali I’ve always wanted to travel south of the Equator and Bali was always my first choice .. then Cuba I’ve always wanted to travel to Real life Cuba not the tourist areas China is on my list too, Scotland; my brother lives in the highlands so that one’s easy but I won’t be traveling inland to Scotland this time of year its full of biting midges at the moment, I traveled to Spain once.. so this is not on my list 🙂

    • 😉 I hope you will visit Bali and Cuba someday. These are beautiful places, but the weather could be really hot there :)) I always wanted to return to Scotland, I have never forget how beautiful the nature scenery there..maybe I should visit it again after the referendum matters finalized..

  3. I’ve never travelled out of my home country and I’d love to. Well, I used to think of Havana as a drug and violence zone. Maybe I watch too much CNN. Great post. Might consider some here when I do get out 🙂

    • Hi Tito Tobi, Havana is a safe place to visit, no drugs offer during our stay there and peaceful. I think Cubans prefer to drinking rum than drugs. About safety, I met some ladies who travel solo to Cuba – it’s just to show how safe the country is. Some Cubans also speak good English, especially those who studied tourism and been working in tourism sector. Hope you will travel outside of your home country someday and have a great weekend 🙂

  4. You certainly get around! I’ll have to accept the writing challenge one of these days. Thanks for the entertaining and informative posts.
