Great Ocean Road: Bird Lock Lookout, Cunningham Pier, Great Otway National Park, and Lorne Beach

Australians make wonderful colleagues.

My visit to Australia was a business-related trip, but I had to spend a few weekends in the country. Luckily, I have thoughtful and friendly colleagues who offered us to take a road trip along The Great Ocean Road during the weekend in their cars. A trip that I won’t forget, especially on my colleagues’ kindness and thoughtful offer.

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most beautiful and picturesque coastal drives. The road winds its way along the coast of Victoria, Australia, for over 300 kilometres. It is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. There are many lookout points along the road and a number of national parks and reserves along the route, making it the perfect place to explore the outdoors.

We visited the Bird Lock Lookout, Cunningham Pier, the Great Otway National Park and Lorne Beach.

The Bird Lock Lookout is perfect for birdwatchers. It offers stunning views of the wild ocean, beautiful forests below, and excellent opportunities for birdwatching. I didn’t see any birds, but instead, I saw a number of surfers 😀

Cunningham Pier stands close to 100 years old, and its walls hold the stories of fishermen and sailors from the past. There are many opportunities for fishing around the pier, and it’s an excellent spot for kayaking, canoeing, and other watersports. We stopped at the Pier for coffee and wandered around to stretch our legs. We found funny-looking statues and had selfie fun with them.

Lorne Beach, well, it’s a beach 😀 – we had lunch there, and the number of wild birds who turned into food beggars was quite surprising. The beach features golden sands and clear waters, providing an inviting environment for swimming and sunbathing. But the water was too cold for me to swim.

The Great Otway National Park was our last visit. It offers stunning landscapes and landscapes full of hiking trails, cascading waterfalls, forests, and cliffs. I heard its forests are the perfect place to spot local wildlife in their natural habitat, such as koalas, parrots, platypuses, and kangaroos. We went to see the waterfalls, and it was impressive!

Then…

The Great Ocean Road is a stunning stretch of coastline that has been providing travellers with unforgettable experiences for decades. From charming seaside towns to iconic beaches, breathtaking scenery to tranquil forests and waterfalls, there is something for everyone to explore.

Whether you go for a day trip or stay longer, there is something for everyone. Make sure your mobile phone’s battery is available, or take a camera with you since there will be plenty of opportunities to capture the beauty of this incredible area.

No matter what you end up doing, it is guaranteed that you will leave with cherished memories and stories to tell, just like me, thanks to my Australian colleagues!
