Piaynemo Islands – Another Paradise in Raja Ampat

I had an opportunity to visit Raja Ampat (West Papua, Indonesia) for the second time. On my first visit, I did a liveonboard diving trip (staying on the boat and sailing through the archipelago) and this time, I stayed at a diving resort on Yeben Island.

Piaynemo is a breathtakingly beautiful island group located in the Raja Ampat Regency of Indonesia. Raja Ampat is an archipelago consisting of over 1,500 small islands known for its incredible marine biodiversity and stunning natural landscapes. Piaynemo, also known as Pianemo, is one of the standout attractions within this region.

Piaynemo is renowned for its iconic viewpoint, which offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding turquoise waters, lush karst islands, and dramatic limestone cliffs. The viewpoint is often referred to as “The Piaynemo Islands” or “Piaynemo Peak.” It has become one of Raja Ampat’s most photographed and widely recognized landmarks.

To reach the Piaynemo viewpoint, we sailed with our diving team from Yeben Island through a maze of small islands, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs. The journey is a feast for the eyes and offers glimpses of the region’s natural wonders. Upon arrival at Piaynemo, we climbed a series of wooden stairs that lead to the viewpoint. The ascent can be challenging, but the rewarding panoramic view at the top is well worth the effort. From this viewpoint, we were treated to a breathtaking vista of the mushroom-shaped karst islets that dot the turquoise sea, creating a picturesque and almost otherworldly scene.

The pristine waters surrounding Piaynemo are perfect for snorkelling, diving, and swimming. The underwater world is teeming with vibrant coral reefs, colourful fish, and other marine life.

It’s important to note that Piaynemo is a remote and relatively untouched destination, so facilities and accommodations on the island itself are limited. However it is a paradise for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers. Its awe-inspiring beauty, both above and below the water, makes it a must-visit destination for those who appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

And…I am going to another diving trip! Yay! I hope to update the blog with more underwater images and videos. Some posts are scheduled during my diving holiday. See you soon!
