Sunday Sunset in Sumba Island

A couple months ago, I had an opportunity to visit Sumba Island (Indonesia), a small island lies to the east of Bali. The Island is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, a group of islands located to the north of Australia. They are part of Indonesia and Timor Leste, with unique, distinctive fauna representing a mix of Asian and Australasian species. Interestingly, the Lesser Sunda Islands also shared similar ecoregion that represents the semi-evergreen dry forests with typical tropical dry climates.

Sunday Sunset in Tanarara, Sumba Island (Indonesia)

It was sweltering during the day, but in the late afternoon, the temperature was cooling down, although I felt it was still pretty much humid. I took showers three times a day during my stay on the Island. On the second day, we went up to a hilly area called Tanarara Hills, for its sunset view. Tanarara means Red Land, obviously, the soils of the hills are somewhat reddish. I don’t really know the history of the hills, but, for sure the hills owned by a local who is kindly allowing the public to walk around the hills, enjoying the beauty of the sunset.

  1. Indah, I just went back to your New Orleans post & read your nice reply to my comment there! I was surprised that you now live back in Indonesia!!! So your trip to beautiful Sumba Island was a “local” trip for you!!! I look forward to your writing about relocating & when this occurred!!! Love, Phil

    • Hi Phil, I have to be honest, I was not expecting myself to return and live in Jakarta. It’s quite shocking for Dutchie and myself. But life goes on and we are here in Indonesia πŸ™‚ I hope to read your blog someday soon πŸ˜‰

  2. Wah saya malah belum pernah ke Sumba nih. Mungkin nanti setelah wabah ini berakhir. Sekarang waktunya saling berbagi inspirasi untuk destinasi travel berikutnya setelah keadaan kembali normal. Stay safe, Indah!
