Living in Harmony: The Clown and Its Anemone

Clownfish from Indonesia
The clownfish live within the tentacles of a sea anemone. The sea anemone produces a toxin that protects the clownfish from their predators. A recent study has reported that the clownfish’ wiggle dances are helping their sea anemone host to breathe and help the anemone to aerate themselves, which means the clownfish and anemone need each other to survive living in the ocean.
In short, they live in harmony as part of the mutual symbiosis to survive in the wildlife undersea.
You don’t have to scuba dive to see the wildlife clownfish and its anemone. In the Indo-Pacific region like in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, they can be seen easily by snorkeling close to the beach. Just don’t touch the anemone with bare hands as the sea anemone will sting your skin.
Images were taken in Indonesia during scuba diving. My photography gear for these images: Olympus PEN E-PL5 with Olympus Underwater casing PT-EP10 and Strobe INON D2000. Lens: Olympus 60mm 2.8 macro.
PS: I will be late in responding comments and blog walking as I have to finish an online course this weekend. Thank you for staying up with this blog.

Another breathtaking underwater shots! I remember the first time I saw sea anemone and clownfish I was so ecstatic — as if Nemo himself jumped out of the screen and swam right in front of me.
Hahaha, they get nervous easily and do the wiggle dances much more faster than normal – which could be good for the sea anemone 🙂 Sometimes they attack snorkelers and scuba divers too! Once a clownfish tried to bite my mask 😀
That’s a beautiful under water shot which is a treat to the eyes:)
Thank you so much Vishal! It’s hard not to share the ocean’s beauty 🙂
I always love your underwater images Indah, and this one is no exception. Thank you for bringing the deep to our world!
My pleasure – they are so adorable!
Lovely photo.
Thank you so much Sherry!
Beautiful picture ! I would love to have an underwater case but it’s quite a budget 😦
The underwater casing for DSLR cameras is indeed crazy expensive. I would not recommend that unless you scuba dive often. I suggest to try the casing for your compact camera first or, just like Dutchie did: use GoPro – the quality is brilliant and it is very small! I am preparing a post about photography tips on underwater camera & casing – I hope it will finish soon (just taking too long since I am not a photographer myself 😀 )
I look forward to your post, I’m sure it will be useful to me ! I’m also thinking about investing in a go pro…
Fotonya seperti biasa ya pasti kece badai haha…
