Black Hills Treasure: Sylvan Lake
Sylvan Lake was a tranquil and incredibly beautiful lake. I have never seen a lake with unique rock formation like the Sylvan Lake before. Located in the Black Hills (South Dakota, USA), the lake is known as the ‘Crown Jewel of Custer State Park’.

The rock formation surrounding the lake was naturally formed, however, the lake itself was created in 1881 when Theodore Reder built a dam and the first resort in the Black Hills.

There are plenty activities that you can do around the lake, from camping, kayaking to exploring the lake and its rock formation. We did let Dante, our dog, swimming in the lake and I can tell that he loved it!
It’s no surprises the lake was chosen as a movie’s location. Can you guess which movie it was? 😉

The rock formation is so incredible. Thanks for sharing!
It is, indeed. Somehow it reminds me of Seychelles and Belitung Beach in Indonesia.. 🙂
such interesting rock formations
Yes, it’s very unique 🙂 The US has impressive nature!
That is so true, just like any other country
A very nice place! Ciao
Indeed 🙂 I wish it’s my backyard!!
😀 I agree with you.
Those places, for their history, have always fascinated me
Such an impressive rock formation, and one that lines the lake too! Like a big wall that the adventurous kid in me wants to climb over 😀 Haha, the waters look very clean and so very nice to hear that Dante had a good time. This place looks like it was part of the Disney movie National Treasure 😀 I love visiting big lakes like these. Not only can I get a good workout by walking around the lake but also a good view when I decide to sit and rest by the lake. But I do prefer a sunny day over a cloudy one!
Yes, you are right, Mabel! It is from that movie. I do prefer a sunny day as well, but as long as not too hot! 😀 The rock was amazing, I think there is an area near to the lake that aimed for climbing. It would be another fun activity to do!
I love the rocks. The Black Hills are sacred to Native Americans. Thanks for sharing this lovely place.
Truly a pleasure, Sherry! South Dakota has amazing nature. I hope it will stay that way ❤
Wow so pretty! I’ve always wondered about States in the middle of the country.
Hi Boots, it is surprisingly amazing! I will return soon with more blog posts of our travel in South Dakota 🙂
This place is beautiful.
It was, I wish I could stay longer there 🙂
