Surfing in Costa Rica

A Surfer in Costa Rica by Indah Susanti
It comes to my surprise that Costa Rica is also a surfing destination. Surfing locations in Costa Rica are mostly in the Pacific Coast area. Tamarindo Beach and some areas like in Quepos and Jacó have excellent waves to surf. But these places are often busy with beach-goers as well. Thus, the surfers have to watch their moves. We also visited the beach of Hacienda Baru in Dominical; the beach was empty with excellent waves, I am not sure why no one were on the beach. Surfing season in Costa Rica is from February to July but, in general, it is possible to surf all year round. The waves were not as high as I have seen in Bali (Indonesia), but for sure, that makes it a perfect place to learn how to surfing!

Good to know! I have been looking for good surfing destinations in the Caribbean!
Costa Rica will be perfect and you can also combine it with waterfalls and rainforest track/trail 🙂
Epic! I will get there someday then.
Whoa, you can practically feel the spray from these photos!
It was fun 🙂 Thank you so much, Jay!
Wow! Great!
Liked your page on Facebook, Indah… 🙂

Nice shot and processing.
Thank you so much 🙂
Those are really great photos, Indah. You captured the surfer’s movement beautifully.
Thank you so much, Bama! I had great time with this telelens – capturing new things 🙂
Brilliant shot, Indah. Well captured and the surfer looks focused at what he’s doing. He must be making the most of the waves. As our said the surf isn’t always there 🙂
Hi Mabel, that’s true! and surfing is not easy – as I observed, it needs physical strength to challenge the waves! Thank you so much 🙂
Reminds me when I tried learning to surf oh boy. It is hard and I am still to stay up for more than 2 seconds on the board..
I agree, it’s not an easy sport..although the result of doing it multiple times as you may see in this image – or perhaps he has done it before surfing? who knows! 😀
Excellent pics.
Thank you so much! 🙂
