Monochrome Monday: Whale Sharks
Visiting Oslob to snorkel with the whale sharks was one of our travel itineraries in the Philippines. Four whale sharks were seen, face to face and so closed by. I can’t describe the feeling when snorkeling with these giants that considered as the biggest fish on the planet. It was amusing with admiration and also happy seeing them lived and swam freely in the ocean. And I was impressed how gentle they were when swimming side by side with humans!
The practice of whale sharks feeding in Oslob has raised critics – which I will explain in details on Marine Life monthly post later this week. However Oslob offers opportunity to get close encounter with the “wild” that is lesser of the two evils if being compared to huge organisations that keep the wilds in their sea aquarium as captivity like Sea Life or Ocean-whatever.

Nothing can beat the excitement feeling to see unique marine life in their habitat, ocean. The ocean has always been an amazing place for me to experience the serenity, for its fragility and beauty at the same time. It has been a week since my return and I already miss the tropical ocean.
Every time I slip into the ocean, it’s like going home (Sylvia Earle).

Wow.. Snorkle aja sudah bisa lihat begitu ya. Proud of u ndah.
Terimakasih Nandito..itu memang lokasinya tempatnya si ikan hiu paus stop buat makan..lucu juga ya?
Ohh jd ini berita dari PH kemarin ya?. Betull sudah byk organisasi yg menolak perburuan tsb. Iya kok lama2 diliat jd kyk hewan darat ya. Hahahha. Gak takut digigit?
gak sih..soalnya dia makan udang sama plankton gitu..ini malah takutnya sih kesenggol sama ekor-nya – soalnya ekor-nya panjang banget dan kayuhannya kuat – bisa kelempar kita kalau gak hati-hati…tapi mereka pas menyelam gitu ikan hiu-nya hati-hati banget, kayak ngerti kalau gak ingin melukai kita gitu. Gimana gitu rasanya…
Nan..udah lihat artikel ini belum? – sori bhs inggris, ini cerita whale sharks pas terimakasih setelah dibantuin manusia dilepasin dari jala-jala nelayan – lumayan pinter kayaknya.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2871428/Incredible-moment-whale-sharks-trapped-inside-fisherman-nets-set-free-divers-swim-alongside-say-thanks.html
Oh no, kasian sekali. Kok pemerintah gak ikut campur ya? . Tp sepertinya mafia daging itu udah tahu pangsa pasar dimana saja. Tentu hotel berbintang yg menyajikan ini special menu saat org pd nginap. Ya nelayan disana pasti di fasilitasi juga sepertinya. Rapihh bgt aku liat pic nya.
wow hiu beneran indah?
iya 🙂 tapi hiu yang makan plankton dan udang kecil gitu.. – di Indonesia bilangnya ikan hiu paus..
Belum pernah lht indah lihatnya hiu biasa
Hi Indah again, I have been having this whale shark discussion with my two brothers, especially on the controversial side of Oslob. Are you going to write about it? Do you know if the locals feed them; have their eating habits changed? Do you know if the whale sharks have always been there all year round, or is it because of the feeding? Thanks 🙂
Ps Juho is loving the Philippines, thinking of not coming back 😉
Hi Miia…I will send you an e-mail 😀 Glad that Juho enjoy the Philippines – like they said – it’s more fun in the Philippines 😀 😀
Wow, that would have been an amazing experience! Great photos you captured too 🙂
Thank you so much Christy! 🙂
looks very much special my friend. In movies you get to see only the bad face of sharks
Indeed Sreejith..there are so many different sharks and this one is certainly harmless 🙂 Thank you so much for dropping by 🙂
Cool photos. I can’t imagine what it must be like to swim next to a fish the size of a bus. It is sad that they are feeding them.
Thank you so much Jeff! The feeding part has put me into huge dilemma before visiting. I have another post coming to discuss about it..it’s tough and not ideal situation in many ways..
I love oslob.. nice shoot mbak….
Terimakasih banyak 🙂
