The Papuan Fathers

Taken in Sauwandarek Village, western part of Raja Ampat district, West Papua Province, Indonesia. We were sailing for around six to seven hours to reach the village from the Sorong Port in the mainland (Papua Island/New Guinea). The village is famous for having its beautiful corals surrounding the coastal area. Perfect for snorkeling just right in front of the houses of villagers. Majority of the villagers are practicing Christianity (Advent).

West Papua is home to some 245 ethnic groups that belong to different tribal peoples, each with its own language and culture. The Papuans tribes are known for their caring towards their children and praising the son and father’s relationship. Further information to travel to Papua-Indonesia can be read in this website .

  1. Wow, that first photo is spectacular… Beautiful land & water, but most eye-catching are the Papuan Fathers. Wonderful shot Indah.

  2. Hello Indah, good to see you out diving and alive. I hope you had a beautiful holiday. I think you are starting slowly with this two beautiful black and white photos. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you Erwin! I did, it was amazing dive, so many fishes and beautiful corals. Yup, will be bit slow in updating the blog. Too many photos and too many ideas..I am not sure which one to start :))

      • I can imagine this very well. I have the same problem after a trip and very often I do nothing, ๐Ÿ™‚ just leave it in Lightroom. But you have to do it! I love to see it. Do you have any news from the photo competition?

        • I will but maybe it will be very slow one :)) and the digital camera make it worst, I think I have thousands photos from the trip to look at..
Oh, bad news – my picture was not selected as finalist ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But again, I am happy already being Top 200, so perhaps next year I will try my luck again :))

          • ๐Ÿ™‚ yes click, click, click digital does not help and then again, if you don’t take it, you lost it for ever. Sometimes it’s good to have a little distance and look at it on a later time. This refreshes memories and is more pleasure then work. With video it’s even worse, there you have hours of footage to edit. My backlog is big, very big and I’m not sure if I will shoot any video on my Europe trip or stay only with photos. Don’t worry to be chosen in the final is pure luck. You have already one picture in the Museum. This is a great achievement and top 200 is already a winner. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you so much Draco! Unfortunately my photo was not selected as finalist – to be exact none of underwater photos were being selected as the finalist ๐Ÿ˜ฆ – but anyway, being top 200 is already make me happy ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Welcome, back, Indah! You were missed! I hope that you had enjoyed your vacation and thank you for sharing your journey with us. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Beautiful photographs, Indah, and thank you for sharing with me a part of the world I didn’t know about. (((HUGS))) Amy
